NEW PNG SOLDIERS TOLD TO DISPLAY HIGH LEVELS OF DISCIPLINE on Saturday, 24 August 2013. Posted in News

PNG's NCD Governor Powes Parkop has called on new graduates from the Papua New Guinea Defense Force to display high levels of discipline.

His remarks on Friday at the Pass-out parade at the Goldie River Training Depot follows recent incidents of poor discipline within the force.
The Papua New Guinea Defence Force is an institution built on a colorful history. But in the recent past its reputation has been tarnished by adverse discipline within the force.

It is now up to these graduates to restore this lost pride.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop told them to practice caution and restraint in their mandated duties; above all, to respect the constitution, and be loyal to the national government, and the people.

The national government intends to increase the current man power from 1800 to 5000 by 2015.

Parkop says this is crucial in protecting our internal security.

He also called on the Papua New Guinea defense force to take a leading role in nation building.

The Governor also used the opportunity to announce a partnership arrangement with the Papua New Guinea defense Force to train unemployed youths in the city.

A one-million kina commitment has been made for the partnership to be effective next year. This initiative intends to rid the city of drop outs.

Youths will then be absorbed into the force to undergo basic recruit training to become soldiers or be attached in the workforce. EMTV
