PNG and Indonesia strengthening bilateral ties through trade, investment

INDONESIA and Papua New Guinea will enhance government-to-government and business-to-business cooperation to promote trade and investment between the two countries.
This will be through programmes and activities that include trade missions, joint promotion, business forums, and training and development.
The two countries will also strengthen cooperation in air transportation, tourism, energy and mineral resources.
This is according to the plan of action document signed between the two countries in Bali on Monday.
Foreign Minister Rimbink Pato signed the document with his Indonesian counterpart, Dr Marty Natalegawa on Monday to enable various agreements signed between the two countries in June this year to be implemented.
Indonesia and PNG have agreed to:

promote trade in agricultural, fisheries, and industrial products;
promote immediate two-way investment flows through the establishment of an Indonesia-PNG Business Council, which would meet regularly to exchange information and promote contacts between investment agencies and chambers of commerce and industry;
engage and facilitate the private sectors of both countries in exploring prospective blue ribbon projects in both countries;
encourage investment in telecommunication services, which may include international cellular and satellite services, as well as fiber optic infrastructure development;
enhance cooperation to create conducive condition for two-way investment and facilitate the implementation of business-to-business agreements between the two countries; and,
encourage exchanges of expertise, experience, and best practices on the implementation of Public-Private Partnership.
