Cops held for murder in PNG

TWO policemen in PNG's Northern were arrested and charged last week with the alleged murder of a rape suspect in 2011.
Auxiliary Const Edrick Kanda, 48, of Songande village in the Oro Bay local level government area and Sen Const Cain Haira, 39, of Toma village in the Afore sub-district, were arrested and charged in Popondetta.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Allan Kundi, the Southern region commander, said: “The two officers were alleged to have committed the crime on Feb 19, 2011 in the early hours of the morning at Boko village in the Oro Bay local level government area.
“They had gone to the village after a complaint of a rape case was raised.  
“The suspect, Nelson Boure, was allegedly bashed and shot when he tried to escape.
“The suspect had been sleeping and had come out and surrendered to the two officers.
“Because of the seriousness of the case, the two officers can only be granted bail by the courts.
