FIJIAN workers will soon be able to work in Gulf under a new agreement signed recently.
Gulf Governor Havila Kavo signed the deal with leaders of Ba province in Fiji.
Kavo told the Fiji Sun that the new partnership was proposed by Fiji’s High Commissioner to PNG Romanu Tikotikoca.
“I suggested to the high commissioner to start the new deal with his own province,” he said.
However, he was later informed by Tikotikoca that his province, Cakaudrove, was not ready for such an arrangement.
Kavo said they approached leaders and authorities in Ba who showed keen interest in the proposal.
He added that he had discussed the proposal with Fiji Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama during the Fiji trade show in Port Moresby and he supported it.
Kavo said during his meeting with Ba delegates at Sorokoba village that Gulf welcomed skilled workers from the Fiji province.
He had also met with the business community in Ba and urged them to set up businesses in his province.
“For the business people, they have to set up partnerships with the business people in the Gulf,” he said.
