Husband bashes, padlocks wife in PNG

Port Moresby (The National): POLICE are looking for a man who chained and padlocked his wife at home after beating her up.Gordon police station detective Const Billie Stanley said all police units were alerted yesterday after the woman was brought to the station with chains around her legs.
“All police units were quickly deployed to search for the husband but he is evading us,” Stanley said.
“We encourage him to voluntarily surrender to police because we will eventually catch up with him.”
Insp Mark Mosinakave said: “Such a behaviour is totally unacceptable and very inhumane.
“We do not know at the moment whether he has intentionally done this or he did it in total ignorance of the awareness we have been carrying out against such behaviour in the country. It is a criminal act.”
The couple live at Gordon, in the National Capital District.
The woman is originally from Maramundi, in Enga.
She is now under the protection of police in Gordon.
She showed the chain around her ankles and the injuries to her body at the police station yesterday.
She said her husband left her after the death of their child. She suspected him of having an affair and after a row, he dragged her to their home and chained her ankles using two padlocks.  A relative found her locked up in the house and brought her to the police station.
