Solomon Islands Government Owes University Millions

Source: abc.net.au
The Solomon Islands National University's School of Education has closed most of its facilities and services to students funded by the Government.
More than 600 students were left displaced, due to the Government's failure to pay their dues for this semester.

It was said that the Government owes the National UNiversity about SBD$22.7m in student fees, allowances fees and boarding.

About SBD$10.8m were owed to Kukum Campus and SBD$11.8m to those in panatina Campus.

Representing the School's interim committee, Joe Fiukuai says access to dormitories and dinning facilities were suspended since they returned from their six weeks practicum.

Mr Fiukuai says the situation has really affected them and the Government needs to resolve the issue.

It is understood that the Ministry of Finance is currently working on a Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2013 to cover the costs.
