Tahiti not in favour of nuclear compo law change

The Greens in French Polynesia have dismissed the French announcement to extend the zone eligible for those seeking compensation for health problems caused by France’s nuclear weapons tests.
The National Assembly in Paris last week approved a law change, allowing claims to be lodged anywhere in the territory.
The Greens say recognition is not the same as compensation and describe the law as a mascarade and brotherly cynicism.
They say consecutive local governments from 1960 to 1997 were complicit in the tests and should now not pretend that they didn’t know what was being done.
They say those who were in power should admit that they gave priority to money and affairs rather than the people’s well-being.
