Suva:FIJI Airways is investigating how one of its brand new Airbus A330 aircraft received substantial damage to its undercarriage while landing at Kingsford-Smith International Airport in Sydney, Australia, last week.
The national carrier's managing director and CEO, Stefan Pichler, said the pilot in charge of the flight had been stood down and investigations were in progress.
"We have started a full internal investigation to conclude the full circumstances of the hard landing in Sydney. Until the result of this investigation is established, the captain has been grounded.
"Once we have the results of this investigation, we will be able to draw conclusions which will then lead to the necessary management decisions."
The aircraft, registration DQ-FJV, reportedly toucheddown hard during the landing on March 18.
