The first eighty nine houses out of the eight hundred and ninety which will be built at all district levels nationwide, by the national government will be given to Police Officers.
This was announced by Police Minister and Member for Henganofi Robert Atiyafa, at the ground breaking ceremony of the Bomana Police Housing Estate in Port Moresby today.
The project is worth forty nine million kina and will be constructed by Red Sea Housing Estate. It is due for completion by 2015.
Red Sea Housing Estate has delivered over 10 000 houses in PNG in the last six years and this project will benefit over 150 police officers.
It is in line with the government’s Police Modernization Program that aims to meet the immediate accommodation needs of the police officers in the Nation’s Capital.
And is part of the government’s on going commitment to increase the levels of professionalism in the country’s law enforcement agency.
The Prime Minster then assured the Police Department that more houses will be built for the department.
He said; this project is a representative of the strong platform his government is building for the police force.
Meanwhile, Atiyafa said, Gordon’s Police Barracks in Port Moresby has still become an eye sore and an embarrassment for the government.
The construction will take ten month and will be built on 70 000 square meters of land. EMTV
