A PNG man has been jailed for nine years for the abduction and repeated rape of a pregnant woman in Port Moresby four years ago.
Justice Panuel Mogish sentenced Joe John at the National Court in Waigani last Thursday.
He initially sentenced John to 13 years but deducted four years for the time spent in custody.
John had pleaded not guilty to one count of abduction and 20 counts of rape.
But Mogish accepted the woman’s statement and found John guilty of all the charges.
The court was told that he had abducted the woman on Dec 4 in 2010 when she was five months pregnant. John had threatened her with a knife and a screw driver as she tried to get off a bus at Waigani.
John ordered the woman to stay in the bus and headed towards 4-Mile where he forced her into a taxi and took her to his house at 6-Mile.
The court heard that he kept the woman confined in his room and raped her repeatedly for the next three days.
The court heard that John had no prior convictions.
