Pacific Islands leaders will deliberate on lifting Fiji's suspension on regional group

Leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum will discuss in their meeting whether to lift Fiji’s suspension from the regional group.

Fiji was suspended in 2009 following Commodore Frank Bainimarama’s failure to return the Pacific nation to democratic rule.

Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Tuiloma Neroni Slade, told the forum opening last night, the ministerial contact group visited Fiji in April this year.

With the release of the country’s constitution and the finalization of its election registration, the matter will now be submitted to leaders for their consideration.

Prime Minister Peter O’ Neil says, PNG stands ready to support Fiji's return to the P-I-F.
