Solomon Islands will host 2018 Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival

Papua New Guinea handed over the flag to Solomon Islands at last night’s closing ceremony . This means Solomon Islands will host the next Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival, scheduled for 2018.

The Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival flag was lowered last night at the official closing at Sir John Guise stadium in Port Moresby.

It signified the ending of the two weeks event hosted by Papua New Guinea.

The flag was then presented to a representative from Solomon Islands by PNG festival chairman, Doctor Jacob Simet.

Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion who officiated at the event said the festival enabled the showcasing of diverse cultural traditions of Papua New Guinea and Melanesia.

Despite minor hiccups and unfortunate incidents, some participants said they will be returning home with fond memories.
