A Mount Hagen-based policeman in Western Highlands, has been charged with armed robbery for allegedly robbing a street vendor using a police-issued firearm.
The policeman from Gulf was arrested on Tuesday.
He was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and robbed a street vendor on Feb 18 in Mt Hagen city in the company of colleagues.
Provincial police commander Chief Supt Martin Lakari told The National yesterday that the policeman, in uniform, held up the vendor and robbed his belongings.
Lakari said that included K97, a mobile phone valued at K150, a full packet of cigarettes valued at K25 and a bag of betel nuts valued at K30.
He said that two of his other colleagues were arrested early last month and charged with armed robbery for the same incident.
